Shipping & Returns

Shipping Policy

We strive to fulfill orders in a timely manner. We strive to ship orders (with in stock items) within 1 week.  During peak shipping season – Thanksgiving to Christmas – Please allow 2 weeks for your order to be shipped.  Coffee is roast to order and we typically roast coffee once a week. Sometimes we will not have enough orders for a particular coffee and will have to wait until we have enough to be able to do a roast.

We have very limited personnel and requests to ship orders on a particular date or to delay shipments until just before Christmas cause us many logistical challenges in fulfilling your order, especially this year when we expect to sell out of many items.  We do not have much space to set aside items for future shipment, so unless absolutely necessary, please allow us to ship your order as soon as we are able. Additionally, there have been major shipping delays in recent years – where some packages only going to lower Michigan took 4 weeks to be delivered – so requests for delivery just before Christmas are difficult to fulfill, even if we ship it at what we think the appropriate time.  We are unable to make delivery guarantees in general and orders with requests to hold until close to Christmas have a great likelihood of being delivered after December 25th.

If you require delivery by a particular date, please include the particulars in the comments section of checkout. We will do our best to accommodate such requests.  We also recommend sending us an email (skete@societystjohn.com) after you place your order providing the order number and the requested delivery date. This is especially helpful during the peak shipping season – when we may not notice order comments right away.

Various UPS Service levels – (i.e. Next Day Air, Second Day Air, Three Day Select) – should be understood as the estimated time in transit once the package has been tendered to UPS. An order placed via Second Day Air – for example – will not necessarily arrive two days after placing an order. We require time to process and ship the order. With the exception of UPS Next Day Air services, UPS has suspended delivery guarantees (for both Ground and Express shipments). We will not be able to request a refund from UPS if your package is delayed in transit. 

USPS does not guarantee time in transit for Priority Mail packages. Even should a Priority Mail package take three weeks (when it estimates 2-3 days) to reach its final destination, for example, we cannot get a refund on the shipping costs.

Shipping costs displayed during checkout on our website should not be considered published UPS or USPS rates. Shipping costs on our website may include handling fees to cover packaging materials, weekly pickup fees, etc.

Please ensure that your shipping address is complete and accurate. Include suite or apartment numbers.

We have a policy of not including invoices when the billing address is different from the shipping address. When a shipped order does include an invoice (i.e. the billing and shipping address are the same), the invoice never includes pricing.

Return & Exchange Policy

  1. If you wish to cancel your order:

    • you can request cancellation by email (skete@societystjohn.com) before your order is dispatched;
      or

    • when your order has already been dispatched, goods may be returned in accordance with clause 4.

  2. Goods ordered from us can be returned (see exclusions in cause 4) within 14 days of receipt for a refund – less shipping and handling. The costs of returning goods to us shall be borne by you.

  3. Upon receipt of the goods we will process a refund of the amount paid – less shipping and handling.

  4. The rights to return the goods to us as referred to in numbers 2 and 3 will not apply in the following circumstances:

    • to any product that is perishable (i.e. cookies, truffles, butter creams, fruitcakes, etc.)

    • in the event that the product has been used

    • to any products that we have made or customised specifically for you.

    • If an order is returned to us by the shipping company (i.e. undeliverable due to bad address or refused by recipient) we reserve the right to deduct any return shipping costs that may be assessed by the shipping company.
